Holy crap!

I haven't been here in like... forever! And when I finally came back to check up on here, I was pretty much blown away - everything feels snappier somehow, and I dig the new stuff. And most of all, thanks to everyone for all the wonderful support despite my long absence, and especially for the recent daily deviation!

I guess questions will start coming in about when I'll start making new stuff again, or probably why I was gone for so long. I'll be logging in more often as I am digging the "freshness" of this place - and I'll try to be good with my mail on here :)

Hope everyone's doing good.

Greetings everyone.

I know, it's been a really long time since I've been on here, let alone submit anything. To summarize, I've been working at a new job that's been taking a lot of my time, but in a really good way.

And thanks so very much to all those who have dropped by and left comments and faves, and thank you to all the new watchers. You won't be seeing any activity from me for awhile, but perhaps someday.

So now, off I go again.

Hope you all are well :)

72: A Darker Side of Me

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 30, 2007, 2:31 AM

I've been experimenting with something completely different lately and I think it's time I finally share a little bit of it. I've been diving more and more into the darker side of art, and I am quite enjoying it actually.

My darker experimental self portraits...

Prelude to Freedom

Destruction of the Species

A lot more ideas are swimming around in my head and I just need to find the time to do it. One idea will probably involve me being semi naked ;P

I also had a crazy idea not too long ago. It's been awhile since I've thought about it, but I really want to produce a short film. I have a storyboard in my head, but it's still just floating around. And I'm going to experiment with a very different style than what a normal "film" would be.

Hope you all are well :)

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 7, 2007, 5:43 PM

Still here and breathing... Granted, I haven't been as active on here as much as I should, but you're all in my thoughts. Real life is starting to get exciting lately, so I've been taking a few chances here and there.

Other than that, I actually AM working on a vector piece! :P I'm taking my time on it though since it's one I don't want to rush, and the inspiration for it comes in bits and pieces. So for now, I'll just give a very very slight preview of the idea I'm working on:

And sometime last weekend, my friend Helen invited me to attend a fashion show event. Aside from the fact that she'd like her buddy photographer to snap a few shots of her being the lead catwalk model, it was a whole lot of fun and I got to meet a lot of cool people. So I put together a little montage of my favorite snaps from that evening.

Fashionistas

That's all for now. Cheers! :)

70: Spring + Happy CSS

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 28, 2007, 7:19 AM

March is right around the corner, and even though I currently live in a place where the tropical sun shines for almost 365 days of the year, the feeling of spring from a distant is in the air somehow. Well, I've grown up with the four seasons for almost all my life, so the feeling lingers. :meditate:

As usual, work has been quite busy for me, and I've been spending a lot of my free time keeping busy with other things. And I always seem to run into new people and make new friends as well, so that's a wonderful thing. :)

And yes, I am currently working on some vectors (I know, it's been forever and long overdue) so there'll be some coming up soon. I've also got some ideas that I'd like to try out with photography as well... now I just have to find willing models :plotting:

And to all those who have left comments, favs and to all the new watchers, thank you all so very much :thanks:

And yes, I've decided to redo the CSS to something spring themed :D

Hope you all are doing well :)

I've been wanting to post a journal up for awhile, but just haven't gotten around to it since things have been really busy. So.. I'll get straight to the point.

Come and join me for a live chat session on dAmn! :D

When: Tuesday, Feb 20 8 PM EST (5 PM PST)
Where: #ArtScene

And for more information, check out the official journal entry at ArtScene. There's a short bio of me on there if you guys are curious :P

Aaaaand there's also a contest with prizes! So definitely check it out!

The past few weeks have been extremely super busy! But all in a good way of course. The work I do at my regular dayjob has felt quite rewarding, and I've been spending a lot of time on the side doing all sorts of random visual experiments. I've been sketching a lot and I've been spending a lot of time just going out and meeting new people. It feels fresh and invigorating and I feel happier in general :)

Oh, and just thought that I would share some photos I took over the past few weeks as well! These are actually posted on my Flickr account.

68: No More Slacking, Really!

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 21, 2007, 10:58 PM
  • Mood: Content
  • Listening to: Libertango - Astor Piazzolla
  • Reading: Arabian Nights and Days - Naguib Mahfouz

Alright folks, it's the new year and I vow that I will be less of a slacker. Well okay, it's not that I've been slacking since things have been hella busy, but I wish to be less of a slacker in regards to my personal art projects. I want to do more art, I'd like to experiment with more things, and do more cool fun stuff in general. Well that, and the severe depression that I've been experiencing for the past few months has slowly been going away, and I am feeling much better now. :)

So, here's a list of things that I plan on doing:

Create a book with illustrations in it. I plan on compiling some of my personal favorite works and put it all together in book form with sprinkles of commentaries and my thoughts. There's a few local places that are able to put the stuff together with high quality paper with a hardcover and all that. Even if it doesn't go anywhere and the end product looks like ass, at least I tried :)

Create more vector illustrations. I've got a whole bunch of ideas, but the important thing is that I really need to sit down and figure out what direction I want to go. For some reason, a lot of mythical imagery have been churning in my mind. Speaking of, I can't wait until 300 comes out in theatres. The trailers so far look pretty fucking awesome.

Take more photos. That's right dammit. I'm going to further develop my mind's eye on a photographic level. I don't post many of my photographic works on here mostly because I'd like to keep this gallery as a place to put my illustrations at. If you are curious, I have a Flickr account where I post my photographic musings at. Yes, it would appear that I am leading a double life :P

Start a blog. I've been wanting to do this for a really long time, but I just couldn't dedicate myself to sticking with a schedule. Lately though, I've been writing down my thoughts more and more, and as a start, I would like to do a design-centric blog with a small group of people. It'll be a pretty open format, with a mix of photo journalistic entries, thoughts on general design observations and other art related matters. And of course, the really random wacky entry would be nice too. Once it is ready, I shall unveil it :)

I hope you all are having a great 2007 so far!

Cheers :ahoy:

Once upon a time, in a land far far away...

* a very classic soundtrack starts playing *

It is the dawn of a new year. Old and new allies have joined forces to strike against the agents of darkness. Battling through tactical deceptions and fiery surprise attacks that nearly decimated the fleet, the allied forces still managed to pull through with victory.

As the fog of war dissipated and lead to an era of temporary peace, the allied fleet uncovers a hidden path leading to the uncharted territory of the Great Unknown. A reconnaisance team was sent to gather data, and their only message upon returning was that the Sleeper within the Great Unknown must be awakened.

With an initial set of coordinates charted and with a little bit of faith, the allied fleet began their long and arduous journey into the Great Unknown...

Real time off doesn't happen too often, and little adventures are even rarer. It just so happened that my friend Helen and I had a solid open weekend, so we spontaneously decided to join a short little day trip to Batu Caves.

In a nutshell, Batu Caves is a large cavern that is situated within a limestone hill and is located not too far from Kuala Lumpur. The caverns are home to the many Hindu temples within the area, and the main entry is a grand staircase that steeply climbs up the hill into the largest cavern.

The limestone hills are also covered with dense vegetation towards the top and is also the natural habitat for macaque monkeys. Needless to say, it was quite the enjoyable trip.

And now, some photos! :)

Here's Helen about midway up the long flight of stairs, looking like she's having a good adventuring time.

It's the weekend, and I don't have to work! :boogie:

Unfortunately, the sky has been rather hazy and going outside would not feel very good on my lungs. So I opted to stay indoors and play catch-up with relaxation that's been long overdue.

And finally I figured, what the heck, might as well do something with the CSS feature on my journal since everyone's doing it. Didn't really give it too much time, just a quicky to see how it works and experimenting with a new layout. I'll add more frilly stuff later :)

I've been wanting to do more personal photography but haven't had the time to set things up yet. Other than that, I actually have a fashion photoshoot to do towards the end of the month and I'll be working side by side with the fashion designer who is making the outfits for the model. So that'll be fun. Plus there's a few ideas i want to do in the noir style I recently experimented with, just gotta find models to work with for that as well. We'll see

Hope everyone's doing great!

Finally, it is ready! :excited:

Well, as ready and presentable as can possibly be.

So, my new site is finally up and running! I wanted something simple and streamlined, and I hope that I've achieved that with how it's presented.

My New Site

I'm quite happy with it I think.

At the moment, the majority of the site contains my recent photography works, and my illustration work will be added into the gallery piece by piece as time presents itself since I've discovered that it does take quite a bit of work to reformat/resize/repost stuff. It'll all be there eventually though :)

So there it is. And don't be afraid to shower it with a little love! :D And of course, any bit of feedback is always welcome

Hope everyone's had a wonderful weekend!

Whoa...

So... dA v5 is here!

Still adjusting to the slight changes. My pattern of loading things, looking at things, visual cues, stuff that my lazy brain got used to. Process readjustment sure gets some getting used to ;)

I like it. But at the same time, it doesn't feel quite "there" yet.

Maybe it's because I'm just not used to the changes yet. Or that the shoutbox looks weird. Or that the usual clickity click of my mouse over familiar button areas have changed.

Ok ok. So aside from those issues, I think it looks pretty. More organized. I definitely LOVE the recent deviations display and the general look of the main user page. I know some people have complained about the larger than life type, but I think it works. Well, maybe there's some consistency issues, but I think it's purdy overall. It has a more "Web 2.0" feel, or whatever the hell that means.

:D

And with anything new, there's bound to be improvements over time right?  Stuff gets tweaked all the time. I know I like tweaking my stuff.

:giggle:

That sounded wrong.

But you get the idea ;)

Hope everyone is doing well! I'm busy with work as usual, and I don't want to bore you with those details :P

You know the days when everything seems to be coming full force at you and there's hardly any time to pause and take a breath of fresh air?

Well, right about now I feel like I'm surfing on top of a bullet train and trying my best to balance on top while juggling bowling balls! In a good way of course.

Yes, things have been hella busy for me lately, lots of different projects going on and wishing that I had more time to catch some sleep or just lazy time for myself. I can't really complain though, things have been progressing in good ways and I figure while I still have my reserve of youthful energy, I should spend it wisely

Well, that's it for this entry. Pretty short and succinct.

I apologize profusely to those who have left comments and favs but I have not had a chance to show my thanks to all of you. So I'm taking the opportunity now to do so. A collective thank you to all the kind people out there :thanks:

So for awhile I've been wanting to have a vacation somewhere, anywhere really, that took me away from the regularities of the everyday world. And if you give it enough time, you'll get what you wish for!

I spent two days and nights at Genting Highlands, which is basically a place of entertainment with theme parks and casinos and all that, on top of a mountain in Malaysia. The weather was nice and cool, with lots of mist.

It was also a company sponsored trip which was quite awesome. Basic food and lodging necesseties were taken cared of, along with some fun and games. Jenga seemed to be the most popular game while we were resting in our suite.

jenga

Took a nice evening walk up the hill to the big indoor entertainment palace located at the top. Parts and pieces of it reminded me of Las Vegas, with plenty of shiny lights and interesting things to look at. When I look up, I see stuff like this.

ceiling

And of course, the random alien-dinosaur-crashing-car wall of sweetness.

dino

And cool light sculptures like these horses!

horses

There were a bunch of slow leisurely rides that are suspended all over above the main complex, and this family was enjoying their evening in one.

ride

And I never seem to get bored of any type of reflective surface. Care to guess who? ;P

self

It's been such awhile since I've visited the arcade as well, so I spent some quality time with colleagues there. Here's a friend putting his racing skills to the test.

arcade

So I mentioned it was pretty misty right? Well, here's what our evening walk looked like when we went outside.

fog

There were a couple of parks and gardens around the area too, but I couldn't take too many sweeping scenic shots since it was so foggy all over. We did visit this cool little mushroom farm though. Apparently they are grown in bottles!

bottles

And then the mushrooms grow out of them like this!

mushrooms

Yes, these are the edible variety.

And then we also checked out some indoor rock climbing.

First you gotta put on the harness.

harness

And then just climb! And try not to fall of course ;)

climb

Or you could spin and spin and spin on the ferris wheel.

wheel

Or you could go somewhere else and soar into the sky.

soar

Or fly into the jungle or something if the seat breaks and sends you flying. Ha!

And since it was also World Cup season, there were a lot of festive things going on, for example, this beautiful lady and her grand evening wear!

girl

And check out those soccer... outfits!

And finally this photo pretty much sums up everything about my weekend trip :)

And to everyone who has visited my gallery and commented and faved my works as well as all of my new watchers, I thank you all deeply from the bottom of my heart!
