Metropolis Heights by ekster Metropolis Heights by ekster
When creating this piece, I wanted to capture the atmosphere reminiscent of the vintage metro posters. A few sources of inspiration came from some of the old broadway posters and the various pieces of poster art displaying Fritz Lang's Metropolis. So here's a scene from my imagination of the distant future with some retro styling!

A Full View will make you a much happier person ;)

Edit: Did a little bit of polishing work and adjusted the size for Prints

Looking through your gallery, I am really inspired to work more in vectors. I find the simpicity and clarity in your work amazing. I could go thorugh and fav most of the gallery....but I'll wait to see what else you put out.
Brilliant.

Hey thank you so much for such wonderful compliments friend :)
Yeah, I've always been a big fan of minimalism in general, but it could also be because my skill and patience does not allow me to create overly complex pieces hehehe.

And thanks very much for the :+fav: and the watch as well! I really appreciate it :)

Complexity is not always the answer and....I would love to see what patience can do....

I have a programme that would enable me to do this, but I'm afraid it just isn't my style. I'll leave it to you and other artists, whom do it so well. :)

Yes, I can quite understand their needs to be motivation, but I'm not that great with digital art because I start with circles or cubes, then they make their way to shapes, then finally as whatever or whomever I was drawing. I can only do pixel and rendering once I get my programme over the next few days. And your quite welcome, you deserved those comliments.

You are very sweet :rose: Hehe yeah, I remember my first moments with vector art.. all I kept using was the basic shapes and it was one heck of a chore to figure out how to make things outside of geometric shapes. And then I discovered the pen tool, which I hated at first... but now I've grown to love it :aww:

I love how you've used dull colours then included these lights to give it the dull colours a bright appearence yet dull. It is very nicely done.

Hehe thanks! :) Yeah those little people make it fun, especially for the guy in the elevator :P Tee hee. The other piece I've done with semi dominant gold tones would be my 'Lady in Red' piece. Experimenting with strange color combinations is fun! :D

it is a very lovely piece. i would suggest adding a bit more details to the buildings in the foreground. they blend in with the background too easily.

I like the inspiration and the art deco feel of this picture. It captures the anonymity of the metropolis scene well. Also, the guy doing a striptease in the background on the left side is cool, and tastefully hidden in the shadows...

Thanks so much for the compliment and I'm glad you like the style :) As for the gradients and fades, it's all part of what the illustration program is able to do. The program I use is Adobe Illustrator CS and I really enjoy using it. In fact, it's all I've been using to do 100% of my vectors. As for what's going on in the picture, well, its all open to interpretation ;)

Wow, this definitely gives a metropolitan tone!! Very well done indeed! I'm curious to know how you created this, what program you used and how you knew it would make something this cool looking. This looks like a poster I would buy and put up in my house or in my room! Excelent job. No criticism necessary thats for sure.

Thank you so much for the major compliments! :) The program I mainly use for creating this stuff is Adobe Illustrator CS. I recently started getting into this style of art since late last year when I tried recreating some vintage style stuff and just ended up totally loving it. I usually start out by sketching and doodling stuff on paper first to see if I like an idea and just go on from there. But yeah, if you're feeling adventurous, definitely check out Illustrator CS :)
